Flatgallery was founded by art historian and curator Andrej Jaroš and film director Albert Vlk. The gallery opened in the centre of Bratislava’s old town
in December 2012.
The gallery’s name reflects the rare concept within Slovakia, whereby the gallery’s exhibition and educational functions are situated in the owner’s flat. They intended
to provide a space for young authors, students and university graduates.
During the 12 years of operation, Flatgallery hosted approximately 75 exhibitions, and in addition to the youngest generation, established artists from Slovakia, and abroad were also given space. (Czech Republic, United States, Italy, Netherlands, etc.).
The gallery constantly expands the list of foreign artists, guest curators and residencies. Unlike white cube galleries, Flatgallery is a living space that changes with each exhibition and installation and is a platform for interaction between artworks and real fully furnished interiors, which is often a creative challenge.
All exhibitions are presented in two-month intervals (except pop-up events and exhibitions), focusing on showing contemporary (not only) visual art.
